Worlds Biggest Bingo Game?

Thousands of Colombians gathered at Simon Bolivar’s Park in Bogota on Saturday to participate in the second edition of the “world’s largest bingo game”, hoping to leap into the record books again as they did last year.

The game was organized by Exito, the country’s biggest supermarket chain.

In December 2006, the Exito store won the Guinness World Record for the largest online bingo game after succeeding to bring together some 70,080 participants.

Officials were yet to confirm whether this year’s attempt made a new world record.

“We won the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest game of bingo, beating the city of Los Angeles (United States), and tonight we are going to give that Guinness World Record to the city of Bogota (again),” said Jorge Jaller, an Exito store representative.

The event took place at 5:00 pm local time (17:00 ET) and saw dozens of Colombians return home happy with their Christmas gifts after more than 500 million pesos (about 250 thousand US dollars) were divided among the winners.

“I came here to have fun but I never thought of winning 50 million pesos, (about 25 thousand US dollars)” said Nelson Sandoval, one of the Bingo winners.

Appliances, vehicles and apartments were given away as gifts as well as bonuses to spend in Exito stores.

The bingo game finished with a display of fireworks.

78 Hours Of Talk Before It’s Bingo

A GUINNESS world record attempt at Red Rock soon is sure to attract attention as Leane McLachlan tries to break the best time for continuous calling of bingo.

Leane will need to call bingo for 78 hours. She is allowed a 10-minute rest break every four hours. Despite the obvious ramifications of going without sleep for 78 hours, Leane’s doctor has advised her to refrain from speaking during the 24 hours leading up to the attempt.

Leane has called bingo at events in the past, but said she was certainly not professional and was unsure how her voice would hold up.

A trained medical officer will remain on-site to ensure she comes to no harm, Leane said she was approaching the event with only a small amount of trepidation. We’ve got to be positive about this, but the last 24 hours will certainly be an experience, she said. It will hopefully be worth it. Leane is the secretary of the Red Rock-Corindi Surf Life Saving Club and came up with the idea as a way to raise $20,000 as quickly as possible so they could finish building the clubhouse before its opening on January 13.

Winner Recruits Top Lawyer

BINGO millionaire Jean McCullagh has vowed to fight relatives claiming a share of her online bingo jackpot win.

She has taken on top lawyer Cameron Fyfe to fight her bingo partners – Rose and Jessie McCullagh .

Jean, 69, has had her winnings frozen by the court.

Fyfe said: “Jean is obviously very distressed.

“The whole thing has completely overwhelmed her.

“These cases are notoriously difficult to prove. Mrs McCullagh is adamant there was no agreement.”

Jean and sister Margaret, who was visiting from Canada, hit a national jackpot on a night out with Rose and Jessie at the Forge Mecca in Glasgow’s Parkhead.

They claim Jean promised them £250,000 each – she insists she only promised them a share of the £10,000 local jackpot. Jean believes she can produce members of staff who witnessed the conversation.

According to Rose and Jessie, the four had pledged to split any win.

At an emergency court hearing last month, a judge ordered the payment to be frozen due to the dispute.

The women are married to three brothers and live within a few minutes drive of each other.

The family has been ripped apart and last week Jean cut a forlorn figure as she and husband John finally returned to their £300,000 detached villa in Uddingston, Lanarkshire.

Fyfe added: “The onus is on the other side to prove there was an agreement to share winnings. We are confident they won’t be able to do this as no agreement was in place. “We anticipate calling a number of staff from the bingo club and believe they will support Mrs McCullagh.

Only a month before Jean’s win, local woman Margaret Shearer became Britain’s first £1million winner in the same hall and the Forge Mecca was hailed as the luckiest bingo hall in Britain.

Bingo Callers of the year!

Blake Robson  a bingo caller hit the jackpot tonight when he was named as the best in Britain.

Blake Robson, of the Mecca club in South Shields, beat off the competition from five other regional heat winners to take the National Bingo Gaming Association’s Bingo Caller of the Year award.

The thrilled 41-year-old received his trophy from actress Lorraine Chase, of the ITV soap Emmerdale, after impressing the judges with his clarity of calling at Mecca’s Wood Green club, in north London.

Blake is also £500 better off, and now looks forward to an all expenses paid holiday for two, to Los Angeles, in the USA.

Part of the trip includes the chance to call a game in the prestigious surrounds of the Sun Coast Casino in Las Vegas, a former haunt of his musical hero, Elvis Presley.
