17 Year Old Bingo Player Loses £200,000 Win
A TEENAGER who won more than £200,000 on the bingo in the UK won’t receive a penny because she’s too young.
The unnamed youngster shocked fellow bingoers last Sunday by calling house after just 35 numbers, scooping the £200,000 national prize and the £1969 regional prize.
However, within hours of winning the life-changing prize, it emerged that she broke UK Gaming laws by telling club officials she was 18 when she was only 17.
It is thought she was playing bingo for the first time having gone along to keep her mother company.
One player, who was sat in front of the teenager, said the girl seemed to be unsure of how to play the game. “When she called ‘house’ people thought she must have made a mistake and only got a single line of numbers.
“I am sure she had no idea how big a win she was in for.”
“When it was announced, everyone cheered – she got a standing ovation.”
“At one point she went out for air because it was too much for her.”
A National Bingo Games Association spokesman confirmed that they thought the girl had won the top prize, before discovering she was not 18.
He added: “The young woman had joined the club that evening, signing a declaration that she was 18.”
“Subsequently, the club and the association were told she was only 17 and therefore not legally old enough to join a club and play bingo.”
“The prize will go to the player who scored the next lowest number in the national game on that night, which was a gentleman in London who called in 36 numbers.”
