New Report Expects Global Gambling To Increase Significantly

As reported by PCW

PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP has released a study that focuses on the gambling industry around the world, and its findings are that there will be increases in the industries worth over the next four years.

Figures released in the report claim that in the year 2011, the global gambling industry could be worth up to $144 billion, after a compounded growth rate of 7.2%. That figure is up from the current # of $101.6 billion.

The main reason for the increase will be due to the Pacific-Asia region of the world, which is led by the resort of Macau in China. Revenue in that region is expected to raise from $14.6 billion to $30.3 billion, a 15.7% increase.

In the United States, revenue is expected to increase by 6.7% a year, taking the overall number from $57.5 billion to $79.6 billion. Nevada revenue is expected to grow to $18.2 billion, up 7.5% per year.

Calling the Callers

Bingo calling is one of the essential elements of the game of bingo. Every night in the over 600 clubs in the UK, bingo callers take the stage to call the numbers and help create a fun atmosphere. It’s a tricky job, not for the faint hearted. A bingo caller needs to have a thick skin at times, and be on hand with a funny line or a sharp retort at others. Not everyone is suited to the job.

In recognition of the skills required to make the grade, there are annual bingo calling competitions — both at the club and the national level. The best known of these is the NGBA Bingo Caller Of The Year Competition. The main competition kicks off again this month with the final to be held in November 2007, following the regional heats.

Bingo callers are being encouraged to sign-up and take part and fight for the ultimate title of Bingo Caller Of The Year.

The Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative

The Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative announced its support for the Internet Gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement Act, introduced today by Congressman Jim McDermott (D-WA). The bill would create a taxation regime for online gambling companies to be licensed under the recently introduced Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (H.R. 2046).
As Congress works to find funding for critical government programs, Congressman McDermott’s legislation is expected to generate between $6 billion and $25 billion in revenues for the U.S. Treasury in the first five years of enactment.
Regulated Internet gambling would protect an individual’s freedom to use the Internet as they choose, generate funding for critical government programs and protect against underage gambling, compulsive gambling, money laundering, identity theft and fraud. Current efforts to prohibit Internet gambling are futile. Americans continue to gamble online, but without safeguards and protections.
Congressman McDermott’s legislation functions as a companion bill to the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act, which would establish a licensing and enforcement framework for regulated Internet gambling in the U.S. Under the licensing legislation, each Internet gambling operator licensed by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) would be required to pay a fee of two percent of all funds deposited by any person placing a bet. The license fee would be paid solely by the Internet gambling operator and would not be deducted from the deposit of the person placing a bet. Licensed operators would also be required to ensure the collection of applicable federal and state taxes from licensees and from individual gamblers.

£1 million bounty for Nessie Picture

The Rock Ness music festival is the place to be to capture a picture of the elusive Loch Ness Monster.

An estimated 50,000 music fans  will make their way to the picturesque shores of Loch Ness, where they will be given a Nessie-Snapper camera to capture a picture of Nessie.  Hoping to better the  ‘Surgeon’s photograph’, which is still the most recognised despite being taken over 50 years ago.

If anyone can catch the fabled creature on camera, they must satisfy the Natural History Museum that the Loch Ness Monster really exists to claim the £1 million prize money.
