National Bingo’s Lucky Winner!

Julie Bowes-Shorten, of Sprowston, won the National Bingo Game prize of £100,000 playing bingo while playing the game in her Norwich club.

The Norwich mum, who is currently receiving treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, had only joined Mecca earlier this year “to get out of the house” after recovering from two previous bouts of cancer.

She said she was gob smacked to scoop the top prize after completing a full house in 40 numbers, the lowest call in any of the 470 clubs playing nationwide, as well as the £495 house prize.

Mrs Bowes-Shorten, who has three children and four grandchildren, said: “I sat there in shock when I realised I had won. I thought I must have just won the house prize.

“My friend had to tell me three times how much I had actually won to get it across to me.”

European Union Joins Fight for Online Gambling

The European Union has taken steps to join Antigua in the fight for gambling. Antigua challenged the United States because of the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in October 2006.

Compensation is being sought after due to the losses in the United States market and it is being said that the U.S. violated a treaty that is held under international trade laws.

The European Union has now joined Antigua in their case and they too are now seeking compensation for losses in the U.S. market regarding online gambling.

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act prevents financial companies from transferring funds back and forth from United States online players and the different gaming companies they play at. This basically means that the U.S. market is completely closed from foreign gaming operations.

The case has been extended until December by the World Trade Organization, is the group that overseas, or monitors, international disputes in terms of trade. With so many gambling companies experiencing such large profit losses, many are waiting and watching for this case to come to a close to see exactly what will come of the U.S. ban.

U.S. Gets Another Extension in Online Gambling Negotiations

Today the US Trade Representative’s Office announced yet another delay. The deadline has now  been changed to the 14th December, 2007, instead of Monday, when settlements were supposed to have been reached between the US and other members of the WTO.

Gretchen Hamel the U.S. Trade Representative spokesman said, “Each negotiation is proceeding at its own pace, and some are quite advanced. However, we have agreed to extend the negotiation period for all claimants.”

“In order to provide all parties with sufficient time to reach a successful resolution, the United States and the claimants have jointly agreed that these negotiations should be extended until December 14,” Hamel continued.

A reasonable solution is expected to be met by all nations involved by the deadline on December 14.

One lucky Lady!

A shocked player scooped more than £28,000 to start her weekend with a bang. The lucky woman, who does not wish to be named, won the cash on Friday.

She was playing at her local bingo hall and is one of the three winners to call house on 65, won £28, 273 – a third of the game’s total jackpot.

The win came as a complete surprise to the winner, who initially thought she had only won the full house prize of £3,493.

Edinburgh player wins BIG!

Fellow bingo palyers in Edinburgh (Scotland, UK) are hoping some of  Irene Hall’s luck will brush off on them following the launch of a new game offering a massive £1 million jackpot. Mayfield resident Irene, who plays bingo every day, was one of the first winners of the National Bingo Game and won almost £4000.
