Laurence Fishburne in new Vegas Thriller
Hollywoodreporter.com claims that Laurence Fishburne is in final negotiations to board Columbia Pictures’ Vegas-set thriller “21”, along with Liza Lapira and Josh Gad who have also joined the cast of the blackjack tale.
The film is based on Ben Mezrich’s best-seller, ‘Bringing down the House’, which is the inside story of six M.I.T. students who, guided by an MIT lecturer who acts as a mentor, devise a plan to ‘count cards’ in Blackjack, enabling them to get an edge over the casinos, and subsequently take the Las Vegas casinos for millions of dollars. Fishburne will play a Vegas security chief who hunts down the group.
Jim Sturgess and Masi Oka have already boarded “21”, which will be helmed by Robert Luketic. Shooting is set to begin in February, in Boston and Las Vegas.
Kevin Spacey, who also will appear in the film playing an MIT lecturer, is producing alongside Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca. Sony’s Elizabeth Cantillon and DeVon Franklin are shepherding for the studio.
Fishburne, whose recent film credits include “Bobby” and “Akeelah and the Bee”, also is a theater veteran whose credits include “Without Walls and Fences.” He was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in “What’s Love Got to Do With It.”

Banks issued subpoenas by US Department of Justice
A report in this week’s Sunday Times Online claims the US Department of Justice has ordered the world’s biggest investment banks, accountants and law firms to hand over all e-mails, telephone records and papers connected with internet gaming firms as part of an investigation into illegal online gambling in America.
According to the Sunday Times, HSBC, Dresdner Kleinwort, Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank are known to be among the banks that have been issued with subpoenas — official requests for information — as part of a worldwide hunt to build a case against those who benefited from illegal online gambling.
The Department of Justice first issued subpoenas in October; only days after George Bush sounded the death knell for America’s $6 billion (£3.2 billion) internet gambling industry by signing legislation banning all related transactions. But until now the investigation has been kept secret. It is thought that some investors in online gambling companies, including Party Gaming and 888.com, have also been hit with requests for information.
The request could force banks and other advisers or former advisers to the gambling companies to hand over hundreds of thousands of e-mails and files to American investigators. The probe by the Department of Justice will spark outrage in Britain, coming so soon after the extradition of the so-called Nat West Three to America. The subpoenas do not reveal whom the Department of Justice is targeting. But some believe the ultimate goal is to find information incriminating the founders of the online gambling firms.
Bingo Gala players are very keen on Keno!
I made a call to one of those lovely guys over at Bingo Entertainment Ltd today. Harry, who could be seen last November meeting many of the Bingo Entertainment players who won a place on the Bingo Cruise, was sounding very excited, and told me about the latest craze on the bingo sites – KENO.
He said all the Bingo Entertainment sites are buzzing with excitement, and not only for the bingo games, but they have an increasing band of players who regularly play games such as Keno, Slots and Pull tabs. All of these games have progressive jackpots just like online bingo. This week alone has seen three big winners at Bingo Gala.
On 15th January the player known as redfredred, from Madison, Wisconsin won a fantastic $2,500.00 playing Keno. Then on 16th January, the player known as talisman, from London, Ontario won $1,250.00 on Keno. And then on 19th January, the player known as girlygirl from Richmond Virginia won $1,620.00 playing Gala 5 reel slots. No wonder there is so much excitement in the air!
Harry also told me that there are only 2 weeks remaining for the third and final qualifying round to win a seat at the Bingo World Championship 2007. This takes place on Wednesday 7th March, 2007 at 8pm EST. And there is massive $10,000 cash up for grabs! Bingo Entertainment Ltd already has 5 players from each of their sites who have qualified in each of rounds one and two, and round three finishes on 31st January.
Harry tells me that there is still time to qualify on any of the sites. The 5 winners from each site will win the third qualifier by playing the most bingo games. Enough said Harry, I’m off to play bingo, and of course I’m going to have a go on Keno at the same time!
